I’m a West Coast girl born and raised in Los Angeles, CA but now on the East Coast in Washington, DC. Somewhere in between, I lived in the Middle East and traveled extensively as a journalist covering a vast array of topics from news to politics, finance to lifestyle, automotive to fashion. I think those experiences have made me a more well-rounded reporter.

I’ve mixed and mingled with celebrities. I’ve put lawmakers and the powerful in the hot seat. I’ve been on the ground to hear your stories.

Now that we’re living in the apex of censorship, I’m here to do all of that on my own, sans any external influence!

Although I’m now on the East Coast, I’m forever a proud Angelino who will always back the home teams: LA Dodgers, Lakers, Rams, and Kings.

GO LOS ANGELES!

I enjoy nerding out to documentaries, reading non-fiction, and consume news 24/7. However, I always manage to carve out time to indulge in my favorite entertainment shows such as the 90 Day Fiance franchise and all their spin-offs! Yes, that’s my guilty pleasure. I’m also a sitcom junkie. From I Love Lucy and Gilligan’s Island to Friends and Seinfeld – I love to laugh!

Hey, the real world is heavy enough. Sometimes you just gotta cut it off and laugh.

Q&A with Manila Chan

Are you Filipina?

No. My first name may be the capital of the PI but I am ethnically equal parts Lao+Chinese, with a sprinkle of Mongolian/Siberian.

What political party do you back?

It’s complicated. I grew up in the 1980s in a Democratic, union-member family and community. Fast forward 40+ years and the party has changed. I haven’t. I consider myself politically homeless. I love my teams in sports but I don’t vote based on team, nor am I a single-issue voter. My allegiance is to stay true to my personal values/ethics and never forget where I came from.

Are you married?

Yes! And I have one child. But I prefer to afford my family their privacy, so I seldom share anything publicly about my family or friends.

Summarize who you are

Animal lover. Yogi. Foodie.

BOLD, BRASH, AND UNABASHED.
